Three Family-friendly Activities To Do This Halloween

Aside from the obvious activity of trick or treating, there are a number of family-friendly activities you
can do to celebrate Halloween. Here are three of my favorites.

1. Feast on freshly harvested, seasonal foods like pumpkin, squash, apples, cranberries, eggplant, figs, grapes, parsnips, pears, persimmons, sweet potatoes, and more. Most of these items work wonderfully in casseroles, soups, and stews, so invite your neighbors and share the bounty of the season!

2. Have a harvest craft day. Visit your favorite local park to collect leaves and acorns and use them to create leaf prints or collages and acorn necklaces. you can also gather them together in a basket and create a one-of-a-kind centerpiece for your altar, mantle, or table. Visit a local pumpkin patch and choose pumpkins to carve or paint later in the day.

3. Gather together wood, twigs, and leaves and have a bonfire at dusk. You can roast hot dogs, toast marshmallows, and make s'mores while discussing the habits you want to let go of and your dreams for the coming year. Even better, write down the things you want to let go of and burn them in your bonfire to release them.
